Ear acupuncture may help weight loss says new BMJ study

A promising study has shown that simple ear acupuncture can help weight loss as well as suppress the hunger hormone ghrelin. The study, published in BMJ Open Gastroenterology randomised two groups of people to either receive ear acupuncture for a month or sham [pretend] acupuncture.  The results showed weight loss in the acupuncture group after just one week as well as reduction in hunger hormone grehlin.

This is a promising study and the authors acknowledge further investigations need to be undertaken on larger numbers however as acupuncturists, we know firsthand how much of a valuable tool ear-acupuncture is in the fight against obesity.  It’s simple and can be really effective.  A tool well worth having in your diet kit bag!
